TRANSLATIONS FOR ENSEMBLE BELLA LUCE – JUNE 19, 2021 CONCERT

Questa o quella (Rigoletto) - Verdi

This girl or that girl are equal to the all the others I see around me,

the core of my being I will not yield to one beauty or

another their attractiveness is what they are gifted from fate and embellishes life

Perhaps today this girl welcomes me perhaps tomorrow another girl will demand me. Constancy is a tyrant to the heart it is a hated cruel disease to only those

who want you to be faithful;

There can be no love if there is no freedom.

Husbands’ jealous rage, lovers’ woes I despise,

I defy the hundred eyes of Argo if I fancy a few beauties

A Vuchella ( A Sweet Mouth) - Tosti

Yes, like a little flower,

You have got a sweet mouth

A little bit withered.

Please give it to me it's like a little rose

Give me a little kiss,

give, Cannetella! Give one and take one, a kiss as little as your mouth

which looks like a little rose

a little bit withered.

.

Ideale(Ideal) - Tosti

I followed you like a rainbow of peace along the paths of heaven;

I followed you like a friendly torch in the veil of darkness, and I sensed you in the light, in the air, in the perfume of flowers,

and the solitary room was full

of you and of your radiance.

Absorbed by you, I dreamed a long time

of the sound of your voice,

and earth's every anxiety, every torment

I forgot in that dream. Come back, dear ideal, for an instant to smile at me again,

and in your face will shine for me, a new dawn.

Funiculi Funicula - Denza

Yesterday evening, Anna, I went up,
Do you know where?
Where this ungrateful heart cannot spite me any more!
Where the fire burns, but if you flee
It lets you be!
And it doesn't chase you, it doesn't burn you, to see the sky!
Let's go up to the top, let's go,
Funicular up, funicular down!

We've climbed it, my love, we've already climbed
To the top!
It's gone up, then returned, then it's back...
It's always here!
The summit revolves, around, around,
around you!
This heart always sings, my love,
Let's get married one day!
Let's go up to the top, let's go,
Funicular up, funicular down!

La Pace Piu’ Grande (The Greatest Peace) - Malyszko

As I walk through this place, never lonely;

It feels as if I’ve been here before

I know my steps will be guided for evermore by the light shining in the darkness

When there is doubt in your life don’t be frightened

Let the thoughts be replaced by the calm

Only knowing that peace will be forever in this place

Here is great peace in this world if we try, really try

There is always a greater peace

no more should there be grief and pain

The world needs a better way

To dispel our great divide

Look to the heart and find its peace

Let the light find its way throughout all humanity

Embrace all lives as one; our souls unite through eternity

Blessed hearts evermore

Greater love

Chi il bel sogno from La Rondine – Puccini

Who could Doretta's beautiful dream

ever guess?

Her mystery how come it's never

how come it's never ending

Alas! One day a student

kisses her on the lips

and it was such a kiss

revelation:

It was passion!

Crazy love!

Crazy intoxication!

Who could this subtle caress

of such flaming a kiss

ever describe;

Ah! my dream!

Ah! my life!

Who cares about riches

if it finally flourishes

happiness!

Oh golden dream

to be able to love like this!

Poemas norteños - Lasala

1. Nube (Cloud)

I am a mixture of the wind and hillside.

When I die, time will cease for me.

And a coat of stars will cover me.

I travel the roads, facing the wind,

Since changing directions, make me feel old.

I will need neither tears nor prayers from anyone.

For the self made person, this is not necessary.

I am a mixture of the wind and hillside.

2. Misterio (Mystery)

I do not know what your voice has that holds me in its spell.

Gentleness, yet rugged asperity!

When you speak of the soul, all of my sorrows are filled with shining stars.

By the amorous path of your word, I am following the gleam of your eyes,

I do not know what your voice has that holds me in its spell.

3. Ángel (Angel)

O Holy Friday night, my child came.

On Holy Friday night, my arms made him a cradle.

And an angel watched over his sleep, meditating, watching in my retreat,

Searching for his future through a transparent silence.

I asked the Virgin three graces for my child.

I gave the message to the wind, and the wind transported it to heaven.

On Holy Friday night, my child was born. Ah!

Musica Proibita( Forbidden Music) - Gastaldon

Underneath my balcony every evening
I hear a love-song,
Repeated several times
By a handsome young man
And it makes my heart beat faster.
O how sweet is that melody!
O how pretty, how I love to hear it!
My mother will not let me sing it,
I don't know why she would forbid me,
Now that she is out I am going to sing
The song that I found so exciting.
I'd like to kiss your raven hair,
Your lips and your solemn eyes;
I would want to die with you,
O heavenly angel,
My beautiful beloved, precious jewel.
Yesterday I saw him walking by,
And heard him sing as he always does:
I'd like to kiss your raven hair,
Your lips and your solemn eyes!
Clasp me, darling, clasp me to your heart
